Dog Walking the Red CarpetComment RSS

You already know that people aren’t the only stars to light up the silver screen. In between all of those Hollywood stars are a few talented and remarkable dogs that seem to make each and every production a whole lot more fun. This weekend, to honor those charismatic canines, the Fido awards will be held in London, England – and we’re sure that it’s going to be a barking good time!

This year on the nominees list, there’s a ton of fabulous dogs that made us laugh, cry, and of course, share in a love for these beautiful creatures, though we can’t say it was easy to narrow down those dogs. Even the event organizer, Toby Rose, agreed in a recent interview that there’s “an unprecedented run of dog successes at the international box office”. Some of this year’s nominees include the dog who played Marley in “Marley & Me”, George Clooney for the voice of the lead character in the upcoming “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, and the animated canine stars of “Bolt” and “Up”.

The Fido Awards are the first international awards for canine film stars. The annual award ceremony will be held November 22. Winners in each category will be decided by a panel of British film critics. For more info, visit WorldWideFido.com.

Flea-B-Gone Dog Treat Recipe!Comment RSS

November 13, 2009

Wow. When we heard about this dog treat recipe, we couldn’t wait to try! Apparently, Brewer’s yeast is a natural flea remedy and while you should always talk with your vet about fleas and use an appropriate flea prevention method, we wanted to test out this yummy treat recipe and see if our pooch loved it and if it maybe kept some fleas at bay. We’ll see soon enough :)

Flea-B-Gone Biscuits
1 cup flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup brewer’s yeast (available at health-food stores)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup chicken stock plus 3 tablespoons for basting

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix flour, wheat germ, brewer’s yeast, and salt together. Add oil. Alternately add 1/2 cup chicken stock to the flour mixture in 3 parts; mix until well combined. Knead about 2 minutes by hand on floured surface; dough will be sticky.

2. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out about 3/8 inch thick. Cut out bone shapes or other fun dog treat shapes. Then, place on prepared baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes, rotate baking sheet, and baste with remaining 3 tablespoons chicken stock. Bake 10 minutes longer. Turn off oven, leaving oven door closed. Leave pan in oven for 1 1/2 hours longer to harden and cool. Remove from oven and let cool fully. Store in an airtight container.

Start The Journey With 2 Dogs 2000 MilesComment RSS

November 2, 2009

We recently came across 2 Dogs 2000 Miles, and were instantly touched. This inspiring pet blog is dedicated to their dog, Malcolm, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2004 and has since been given rest. Malcolm’s owner, Luke, and his two dogs Hudson and Murphy, took off on a 2,000 mile journey from Austin to Bostonto educate people on canine cancer, and work to create awareness and support for the prevention and cure of canine cancer.

We hope you’ll take a few minutes and a few dollars to Support 2Dogs2000Miles – your help is invaluable to them, and honestly every dollar helps! Check out Walk With Us to find out where they’ll be and you can show you support by joining them for a mile or two!

They’ll be at the following cities over the next few months, and we hope you can visit them!
Harrisburg PA -Mid October
Allentown PA -Early November
Philedelphia PA -Thanksgiving
New York City NY -Christmas Week
Hartford CT -February 2010
Providence RI -April 2010
Boston MA -May 2010

It’s so inspiring to see Luke, Hudson, and Murphy working to increase awareness for canine cancer and raise money and attention to finding a cure for the disease! We support their cause and wish them the greatest success.
