Walking Tips for You (and Your Little Dog, Too!)
May 5, 2009
Summer is rapidly approaching, and that means that we’ll be shifting our focus to outdoor activities soon. It’s a great time for you and your pooch to get some exercise, and since we at K9HealthSolutions.com care about the welfare of both parties, we’d like to share some valuable walking tips for the coming season.

1.Keep your dog on a leash. This way, he or she won’t be able to run off.
2.As a courtesy to others, clean up after him or her. You wouldn’t want to step in another dog’s waste, and neither does anyone else.
3.When you’re walking for long periods of time, it’s important to stay hydrated. This goes for both of you. You don’t need to bring a water dish for your dog; your hand can act as one.
4.As with any form of exercise, you should take some time to rest every once in awhile. Find some shade, take a few minutes to relax, and let your dog have a drink (see above).
5.Consider training. A trained dog is much easier to walk with, and eventually, he or she will be walkable without a leash.
Keep these things in mind when you’re out and about with your pooch, and enjoy the summertime conditions!
As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, the real harbinger of summer, no doubt dogs will be out and about more enjoying outdoor activities. I don’t think you should consider #5, you should embrace that training and reinforcing your dog to reliably respond both on and off leash cues. I’m starting to increase my regular walks with my 3 dogs and keep them involved and active wearing their Har-Vest no pull hybrid harness and backpack in one. I have them carrying their own water and poop bags and other stuff I might consider bringing along as we explore the exploding spring stuff about us. Great site btw, really enjoyed it.
